WhatsApp Green Tick Verification in India: Step-by-Step Guide
The Green Tick requires more than filling a form — here's what Meta actually checks, who applies on your behalf, and how long approval realistically takes.
The WhatsApp Green Tick (now formally the Meta Verified badge on WhatsApp Business Accounts) is the single biggest trust signal you can add to your WhatsApp presence — but it's earned, not bought, and most guides skip the part where Meta actually rejects applications that don't demonstrate real business notability. Here's what's actually required.
What you need before you can even apply
- WhatsApp Business API access through an official Meta Tech Provider / BSP — the Green Tick does not exist on the free WhatsApp Business consumer app.
- A verified Meta Business Manager account, with your business details confirmed by Meta.
- Two-step verification enabled on your WhatsApp Business Manager account.
- A display name that matches your registered business name, website, and social media presence exactly — name mismatches are one of the most common rejection reasons.
The 4-step process
- Set up WhatsApp Business API through a BSP. Your provider provisions your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) and connects it to Meta Business Manager.
- Get your Business Manager verified by Meta — this confirms your legal business identity independently of the Green Tick application itself.
- Your BSP submits the Green Tick application on your behalf. You cannot apply directly as a business — this has to go through your Tech Provider.
- Meta reviews for 30-60 days, checking business notability before approving or rejecting.
The part most guides skip: "notability"
Meta doesn't approve every applicant with clean paperwork. The underlying bar is whether your business is genuinely notable — meaning people actively search for it, recognise it, or it's been covered by credible media. Signals that help:
- Press coverage or mentions in reputable publications
- A significant existing customer base actively searching for and messaging your brand
- Consistent brand presence across your website, social profiles, and business listings
- An established, verifiable business history (registration, GST, years in operation)
A brand-new business with no public footprint beyond its own website is a common rejection case — not because the paperwork is wrong, but because there's nothing external for Meta to verify notability against.
If you're rejected
Rejections aren't final. Meta allows reapplication after 30 days. Use the waiting period to build genuine notability signals — secure a press mention, get listed in relevant industry directories, or grow your organic search presence — rather than simply resubmitting the same application unchanged.
